What situations is mediation not appropriate for divorce?
Answer:
Mediation is not an appropriate option in a divorce when there’s a high-conflict relationship between the parties. Sometimes, there’s a lack of trust. Maybe one party is not being honest and truthful in their full financial disclosure. Sometimes there’s a great deal of animosity and people will just refuse to cooperate with each other.
Sometimes we have to go to court. We need the court’s assistance to help us get through some issues and problems that people aren’t able to or willing to participate in honestly through mediation. Unless both parties are willing to participate, unless both parties are open and honest about their finances, and unless both parties commit to the process, mediation might not work for you.
