3 Divorce Mediation QuestionsWhat are the benefits to choosing mediation instead of the traditional divorce process?

People ask often why they should consider mediation. Mediation is a great alternative to a traditional divorce. Generally, mediation is less expensive; it’s less stressful. It allows you and your spouse to maintain control over the process. It allows you and your spouse to craft an agreement that’s right for you. It allows you to avoid the stress of going to court and the uncertainty of having a judge make a decision on your case on the issues that impact you. If this is something you’re interested in, you can contact us at our office.

What happens after the divorce mediation process is over and we have a signed separation agreement?

Many people ask what the process is for getting divorced after you’ve met with a mediator and you have a signed separation agreement. What happens at that point is we prepare those documents that the court requires that we submit in order to get you officially divorced. That includes a Judgement of Divorce and some other ancillary documents.

Upon submitting them to the court, the court will review them, sign them, and return them to my office. We will then provide them to our clients. That would include a formal Judgement of Divorce, which declares that the marriage is over. If this is something that you’re interested in talking about, you can call us and we can talk.

What if my situation is too complicated for divorce mediation?

Many of these issues we’re able to work out in a mediation differ from person to person. Each case is a little bit different. There is no complicating factor in your case that makes your case less appropriate for mediation.

We’ll sit down; we’ll figure out what the issues are; we’ll work through the options. As long as you and your spouse are able to come up with a mutual agreement, we’ll make it happen one way or another. That’s something we can help you do as attorney-mediators. We can answer your questions. We can tackle even the most complicated of divorces.
